Camp Descriptions 2018

Farm Science:
Is your child fascinated by animals? Do they love to be outdoors? Your child will love our Farm Science Camp. During this week, campers will get the full farm experience; whether it is performing farm chores, having one-on- one interactions with our calves, goats, sheep, alpacas, donkeys, chickens, and ducks, or finding creatures in the creek. Campers will conduct experiments, participate in STEM challenges, and explore The Lands. This week will include a nature hike to our historic Spring Brook Farm, creek exploration, a wagon ride, ice cream, tie dying, and memories to last a lifetime!

Pioneer Week: Science and technology has led agriculture into an infinite amount of advancements over the past few decades. However, soil was not always plowed with diesel tractors. In this camp session, we will delve into the rich history here at The Lands. We will tour the museum barn and marvel over antique equipment and covered carriages. We will learn about work animals and their roles on the farm. Campers will enjoy campfire cooking, and old fashioned “unplugged” games. This week is sure to be a first-hand lesson your child won’t want to miss!

Wildlife and Water: During our brand new Wildlife and Water week, campers will get in touch with their wild side! Campers will explore our creeks and streams, conduct water experiments, and learn about the creatures that call the water their home. Campers will also participate in daily animal care, a nature hike on or Historic Trail to Spring Brook Farm, a wagon ride, tie dying, and ice cream.

The Lands at Hillside Farms Camp Information

We are so excited to have you join us for our 2018 Farm Camp! Here’s some helpful information to review before your first day of camp.

WHO

All campers will be assigned a group prior to their first day of camp. There will be 1-2 counselors per group of 5-7 campers. The counselors have been trained in CPR, First Aid, and AED, as well as camp policies and procedures. Children will be put into groups based on their age.

WHAT

What should your camper bring to camp?
– Extra clothes and shoes
– Towel
– A hearty lunch. We like to keep our campers very active throughout the day, so we suggest packing a larger lunch than you would normally pack.
– A water bottle
– If your child has dietary restrictions/allergies, please pack them an extra snack.
– Sunscreen
– Bug spray
– Weather appropriate clothing
– Closed toe shoes

What should your camper leave at home?
– Electronics
– Sandals/flip flops/open toe shoes
– Toys
– Valuables

How should your camper dress?
All campers should be dressed in weather appropriate attire. Campers wearing open toed shoes will not be permitted to work with the animals, as it is a safety hazard to the child. Wednesday is our hike day. We recommend sending your camper with long pants/high socks, and footwear appropriate for hiking. Friday is water day (farm science and pioneer weeks), so please send your camper with a bathing suit. We suggest wearing it under their clothing in the morning, so they’re ready for the water. Campers must wear shoes in the water. Crocs, flip flops, or sandals with open backs will not be permitted in the water, as they may cause campers to slip or the shoes may get lost in the water. We suggest using keen-type sandals, water shoes, old sneakers, or rain boots.

The Lands at Hillside Farms is not responsible for any lost items. Please do not send campers wit any valuable items. Your camper is responsible for their belongings.
