CHARTER DAY
On Sunday, March 9, 2008 from Noon to 5 PM, the Pennsylvania Anthracite Museum
McDade Park, Scranton, will celebrate Charter Day. Charter Day marks the anniversary of the document signed by King Charles II in 1691 which granted a large tract of land to William Penn. This large land deed was known as The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
At the same time, in the museum's auditorium, sessions and displays from local and regional attractions and sites will offer information and materials related to anthracite culture and history. Because of our connection to the Anthracite Industry, The Lands at Hillside Farms has been invited to set up a display relating our history, mission, and future plans.
The event is in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). There is no charge.
Please make an effort to come out and share PA and local history with your family and friends. The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum is located in
McDade Park off Keyser Avenue, in Scranton (Exits 182 or 191B off I-81, and Exit 122 from I-476).
